I have often been asked why Hound and Handbag Gift Company celebrates dachshunds. Why wiener dogs?
The simplest reason is that I’ve been owned by one, for sixteen years. As a dachshund owner, I’ve discovered that I was being surrounded by wiener dog items. At first, it was anything dachshund…but like any collector, I started to become more fussy. As my friend and I journeyed through life together, I started to gravitate to things that celebrated all those wienerisms. What makes a dachshund so much like a dachshund. Whether it was a take on his shape, or the “Look” we all know so well,or how much they dig, or a nod to his German ancestry, it usually found a place at home.
The dachshund has the most recognized silhouette out of all the breeds. No one can mistake it;even if they don’t know the proper name of the breed, they know that they have seen that dog before. No other dog breed has been immortalized in caricature,culture or commercials as the dachshund.
There is a bond with wiener dog owners. Once you’ve been owned by a wiener dog, everyone in the dachshund community knows what you’ve experienced.
